Crysis is seen by many as the poster boy for DirectX 10 and it will make your system quite literally fall over crying if it's not up to – it’s a monster of an engine! It doesn’t come as much of a surprise then, that the graphics are something special – they’re above and beyond anything we’ve ever seen in a PC game even still. We used the latest 1.21 patch and range the game in 64-bit and DirectX 10 mode in a custom level run through.

The AM3 CPUs haven't made a big impact here - certainly one that isn't a greater benefit than clock frequency as the DDR2 AM2+-only Phenom II X4 940 is still faster by an inch or two. The landscape is still mostly in Intel's favour, with only the Core 2 Quad Q6700 with its slower front side bus sitting in amongst the AMDs. The E8500 benefits from a few extra fps over the Phenom II X3 720, although it is also a little more expensive too.
